STARTING STRONG
Seattle U has opened the season with a 9-2 record through 11 games, the best start to a season in 50 years. The last time a Seattle U team (of any division) started the season 9-2 was 1968-69 when they went 9-2 before picking up a third loss. That year also marked the last time that Seattle U advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Seattle U went 19-8 that season, eventually falling 75-73 to Weber State in the NCAA First Round.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS WASHINGTON
Washington leads the all-time series over Seattle U, 29-4, including a current 13-game winning streak. The crosstown series originally began in the 1953 NCAA West Regional semifinals, with Washington earning a 92-70 victory. Modern day meetings between the two schools was brought back in 2008-09. The Huskies won last year’s nail biter at Alaska Airlines Arena, 89-84. The Redhawks trailed by just one with 55 seconds remaining, but a later turnover and 6-6 free-throw shooting by the Huskies led to the UW win. Matej Kavas led four Redhawks in double-figures, finishing with 25 points on 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-10 from three. Aaron Menzies had 13 points and 10 boards in the first half before finishing with a 17-point, 13-board double-double. Jordan Hill and Josh Hearlihy added 16 points apiece.

LAST TIME OUT
A dominating second-half performance that included a combined 27 points from Matej Kavas and Delante Jones sparked the Redhawks to tally their sixth straight win, 90-71, over visiting Omaha on Dec. 6 at the Redhawk Center. After holding a slim 39-35 advantage at the half – courtesy a pair of clutch threes from Jones – Seattle U outscored the Mavericks 51-36 in the second half, capping a 10-game homestand with a 9-1 record. Four Redhawks scored in double figures with Kavas and Jones leading the way with 26 apiece. Terrell Brown added 12 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Riley Grigsby chipped in with a career-high 11 points off 5-6 shooting. Kavas shot 66 percent from the perimeter.

REDHAWK RUNDOWN

  • Matej Kavas drained six triples on Dec. 6 against Omaha as part of a 26-point performance. The six threes was one short of his single-game record of seven, set on Nov. 18, 2017 against Detroit Mercy. After hitting just one three in each of the first three games of this season, Kavas has begun to catch fire in recent outings. He has three or more triples in five of the last six games and has shot .500 or better from deep in four of those games. His 2.6 threes per game ranks fourth in the WAC while his 29 total threes ranks first in the conference.
  • Morgan Means continues to dazzle during his junior campaign. The Compton, Calif., native leads the Redhawks in scoring at 15.5 ppg, which also ranks fifth best in the WAC. Through 11 games this season, he has three 20+ point games while shooting 44.2% from the field and 46.4% from three. As a sophomore, Means averaged 8.6 ppg while shooting 39.6% from the field and 28.2% from three. His free-throw percentage and rebounding average have also increased this season.
  • Junior guard Terrell Brown has flirted with a triple-double twice in recent outings. On Nov. 23 versus Denver, the Seattle native finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. On Nov. 28, he collected 26 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. He averages 11.1 points per game, leads the team with 5.6 assists per game, which also ranks second in the WAC, and, at just 6-1, is second on the team with 7.1 rebounds per game.
  • Myles Carter has 34 blocks through 11 games, the second most among all DI players in games played through Dec. 7. The redshirt junior also ranks ninth nationally at 3.1 blocks per game. He is well on his way to breaking the Seattle U program record for single-season blocks (79), set just last year by Aaron Menzies.
  • The Redhawks’ six-game win streak is the first of such a length since a stretch of five wins from Jan. 23, 2016-Feb. 6, 2016.
  • Seattle U ranks first in the WAC in scoring (83.5 ppg), scoring margin (+13.7), FG percentage (48.5), FG percentage defense (38.4),  3-pt FG percentage (39.4) and blocks per game (4.9).
  • With five players averaging double-figures, all five rank in the WAC’s top-20 for scoring. Morgan Means ranks third (15.5 ppg), Matej Kavas (15.5 pgg) Myles Carter is eighth (14.0 ppg), Delante Jones is 11th (13.0 ppg) and Terrell Brown is tied for 20th (11.1 ppg).
  • Brown ranks also second in assists (5.6 per game) and fifth in rebounds (7.1 per game). Carter ranks third in rebounds (8.0), third in FG% (60.6%) and first in blocks (3.1).
  • The Redhawks play a 19-game home schedule in 2018-19, and host 22 total contests as the schedule includes a three-team, six-game tournament. The Redhawk Center, located on the Seattle U campus, will serve as the primary venue for the 2018-19 season due to the renovation and shutdown of KeyArena, scheduled to take place in 2019 and 2020. Seattle U is excited to partner with the Oak View Group and return to the newly-renovated $700 million Seattle Center Arena in 2020-21.
  • Seattle U has compiled a 228-145 (.611) record in North Court, including a 15-game winning streak that began Nov. 5, 2008 with a perfect 10-0 mark during the 2008-09 season. In 2017-18, the Redhawks went 9-1 at the Redhawk Center and so far in 2018-19, the Redhawks are 6-1.
