SEATTLE – (Aug. 11) Seattle University had three Redhawk alums and one incoming freshman compete in the Washington State Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship last week at Gamble Sands in Brewster, Wash. Alumni Michael Almonte, Kyle Cornett and Joe Harvie all placed in the top eight while incoming freshman Nathan Cogswell finished in the top 20 overall.

"It's very exciting to have four guys in the field who are going to be, or who have been, a huge part of our Redhawk family," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "They do a great job representing our program and to have them all play so well in such a prestegious event is a testiment to their hard work over the years."

Almonte, a 2017 graduate, finished runner up at 13-under 197 (64-67-66). Cornett, a 2017 graduate, tied for fourth with a 10-under 200 (66-67-67) and Harvie, a graduate in 2018, tied for eighth at nine-under 201 (67-68-66). The trio were all members of the Redhawks' 2017 Western Athletic Conference Championship team.

Cogswell, an incoming freshman from Kentwood High School in Covington, Wash., shot a four-under 206 (68-69-69).

"It’s an exciting time to be associated with the SU golf program and I’m very appreciative of all the amazing players that have come through over the past few years," Chandonnet said. "They are working hard and they will accomplish great things. Also a huge shout out to SU Hall of Famer Mr. Orrin Vincent and is OB Sports team for opening up such a fabulous facility at Gamble Sands to host the event.
