SEATTLE - (Oct. 5) Riding a 2-0 start to Western Athletic Conference play, Seattle University men’s soccer (6-4-0, 2-0-0 WAC) opens this week on the road at San Jose State on Thursday, followed by a home match against Houston Baptist on Saturday. Through one weekend of WAC play, SU is one of three unbeaten teams and sits in a three-way tie for first alongside Air Force and UNLV.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
• Seattle U opened Western Athletic Conference play with a pair of huge wins. In the league opener at Championship Field last Friday, the Redhawks blanked then No. 21 Utah Valley, 2-0, behind goals from Sergio Rivas and Sam Langston.
• Less than 48 hours later, and more than 1,000 miles away, Alex Roldan and Julio Rubio each tallied goals to give SU a 2-0 shutout of CSU Bakersfield.
• Redshirt senior Jordan Hadden made the first two starts of his career, posting a pair of shutouts on his way to earning WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
• Seattle U leads the WAC in shots (146, 14.6 per game), while also ranking first in fewest goals allowed with 10. They are one of two teams (UVU) to hold a 1.00 GAA and are also tied for first with the Wolverines in shutouts (5).
• Ten different Redhawks have combined to score 17 goals through 10 games.
• Alex Roldan has four goals and two assists through 10 games to lead the Redhawks with 10 points.
• Eight different players have posted at least one assist, including Jeff Rose who has a team-high four.
• The Redhawks were the preseason favorite to repeat as Western Athletic Conference champions, according to a vote by the league’s 11 head coaches.
• Senior defender Kyle Bjornethun and junior forward David Olsen were selected as WAC Preseason Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively.
• The duo were also named to the watch list for the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy. Olsen was a semifinalist for the 2015 WAC Hermann Trophy, Bjornthun was the 2015 WAC Defensive Player of the Year. The two were also named NSCAA All-Americans last season with Olsen earning first team honors and Bjornethun picking up second team honors.
• David Olsen concluded last season tied for the nation’s best in goals scored, finishing the year with 16.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS (1-8-2, 0-1-1 WAC)
San Jose State opened WAC play last week, earning a 1-1 double overtime draw at Grand Canyon. The Spartans followed with a 4-0 setback at UNLV. SJSU has scored 10 goals through 11 games, while conceding 23 to its opponents. Leonardo Silva, Jeremy Romero and Andrew Mendoza have two goals each to lead the Spoartans.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SAN JOSE STATE
Since making the return to DI in 2008, Seattle U is 5-5-2 against San Jose State. Last fall, SU snagged a 1-0 shutout of SJSU courtesy an early goal scored by David Olsen.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES (3-5-1, 1-1-0 WAC)
Houston Baptist opened WAC play with a 2-0 setback against Air Force, but bounced back with a 2-1 victory at UMKC. The win snapped a three-game losing streak in which the Huskies has not scored a goal. For the season, HBU has eight goals while conceding 15. Malik Key leads the team with three goals for six points.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST HOUSTON BAPTIST
Since making the return to DI in 2008, Seattle U is 2-2-1 against Houston Baptist. HBU won last year’s meeting in Houston, taking a 3-1 decision against the Redhawks. Michael Roberts scored the lone goal for SU in a flurry of back-and-forth scoring in the 12th minute of play.
