SEATTLE - (Oct. 23) A trio of players scored Sunday afternoon at Championship Field as the Seattle University men’s soccer team extended its home winning streak to 14 straight with a 3-0 shutout of UTRGV.

The win keeps Seattle U (10-4-2, 6-0-2 WAC) on pace atop the Western Athletic Conference standings while the Vaqueros drop to 4-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.

Alex Roldan got things going in the 14th minute with his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The junior striker took a pass up the pitch from Kyle Bjornethun and beat goalkeeper Esa Aalto into the right side netting.

Freshman Tyler John doubled the lead at the 38:15 mark with his second goal of the year. A series of passes outside the left side of the box set up the play for John. Julian Avila-Good laid off a pass to Sergio Rivas who sent a through ball up into the box for John. Just outside the six-yard box, John chipped Aalto into the far post netting for a 2-0 Seattle U lead.

Holding comfortably to the two-goal lead, the Redhawks would go on to add one more goal as Shane Mahvi scored his first of the season in the 77th minute. Covering the back post off a corner kick from Jeff Rose, Mahvi one-timed a shot past Aalto.

The 2016 home slate concludes Thursday, Oct. 23 when the Redhawks host UNLV in their second to last regular-season WAC match. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
