Seattle University men’s golf started the Western Athletic Conference championships in second place and stayed steady throughout three rounds to finish second, their highest WAC finish to date. The team finished one place higher than predicted by the league’s head coaches in the pre-Championship poll.

As a team, the Redhawks were just seven strokes out of the lead after round one, finishing just three strokes behind eventual winner UMKC’s round two score. SU finished with 868 (+4), 14 strokes ahead of the next finishing team (Utah Valley). NM State finished fourth ahead of CSU Bakersfield in fifth, UTRGV in sixth, and Chicago State in seventh.

Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) and Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) earned Seattle U’s highest individual scores, each finishing tied for third. Throughout the weekend, Kukula reached as high as second place while Hall worked his way up from ninth.

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) finished tied for 13th while Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) tied for 16th to round out the Redhawks in the top 20. Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) finished just behind, tied for 25th. Kukula in round one and Cornett in round three shot the team’s lowest individual round scores (70).

Four of Seattle U’s five-member WAC team are eligible to return in 2016-17 and the Redhawks will look to continue improvement and earn their first league championship.
