Seattle University baseball, the Western Athletic Conference regular season title winners, earned two of the league’s four major awards as Nick Meservey (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was named WAC Pitcher of the Year while Donny Harrel was named WAC Coach of the Year.

In conference play, Meservey went 4-1 in nine appearances with a 2.47 ERA. He held his opponents to a .218 average and recorded 47 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings. Meservey earned two WAC Pitcher of the Week honors, the first of his career, and finishes the regular season in the top 25 nationally in season ERA.

Harrel led the Redhawks to their first WAC regular season title and second consecutive top seed in the WAC tournament. SU currently has 35 wins heading into the tournament as Harrel’s Redhawks set a new program wins record for the second straight season.

Alongside their major award winners, the Redhawks also earned the greatest number of First Team All-WAC honorees among all conference teams. Nearly the entire Seattle U infield – Sean Sutton (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho), Sheldon Stober (Kent, Wash.), Brock Carpenter (Milton, Wash.) – as well as Meservey and SU saves leader, Zach Wolf (Dana Hills, Calif.) earn First Team honors.

Earning a first day bye as one of the top two seeds, Seattle U opens WAC tournament play on Thursday at 7 p.m. vs. the lowest remaining seed after the first round.
