High School: Carpenter was drafted in the 39th round of the 2013 MLB Entry Draft by the San Diego Padres. He was an infielder, a pitcher, and an outfielder for Fife High School. Carpenter led the state of Washington in home runs in 2012 with eight as he batted .373 with 36 runs batted in. He earned First Team All-State and All-Area recognition, plus he was named MVP of the South Puget Sound League.

Personal: Carpenter is the youngest child of Keith and Jennifer Carpenter, and he has two older siblings named Bo and Makenzie. He is majoring in sport and exercise science with a minor in biology.
