Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, B.C., Canada) brought home Dalton Hurd (Bend, Ore.) on an RBI triple after Hurd had reached base on a single and was advanced to second on a Michael McCann (Vancouver, Wash.) sac bunt. SU would extend their lead, 2-0, in the next inning as Lucas Denney (Goldendale, Wash.) scored on a bases-loaded McCann walk.
Taking a 3-0 lead in the fifth, Brock Carpenter (Milton, Wash.) hit a solo shot to left field with one out but SU would leave the bases loaded to end the inning.
Portland started their rally in the sixth, Cooper Hummel scoring on a Brady Kerr RBI single before cutting the Redhawk lead to one, 3-2, in the seventh on an unearned run.
In the eighth, Eric Sapp and Kerr led off with a pair of doubles to score the tying run and Kerr would come around to score the winning run on a groundout to first.
Eight different Redhawks tallied hits as the hit total was nearly equal, Portland leading, 9-8.
The Redhawks next travel to Orem, Utah for a three-game series at Utah Valley – Friday and Saturday at 5 pm PT and Sunday at 10 am PT. Links to live stats, video, and Jake Eastman’s audio broadcast are all on the baseball schedule page at GoSeattleU.com.
