The Seattle University men’s golf team completed the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic Tuesday, finishing in fifth place in the tournament hosted by Oregon State University at the Willamette Valley Country Club.
Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) got off to a solid start, shooting even par over his first 11 holes before giving back a few strokes down the stretch, shooting 75 (+3) to end up in a tie for eighth place at 213 (-3). Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) overcame a triple bogey on the 11th hole, his third hole of the round, with three birdies to shoot 74 (+2), completing the tournament in a tie for 11th place at 215 (-1).
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) earned three birdies during the third round as he shot 76 (+4) to finish in a tie for 46th place with a three-round total of 225 (+9). Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) also ended up in a tie for 46th place at 225 after a final round score of 78 (+6), featuring back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) played Seattle U’s steadiest round of the day, collecting 16 pars and just two bogeys for a score of 74 (+2), moving up into a tie for 53rd place at 227 (+11). Playing as an individual, Michael Almonte (Fircrest, Wash.) shot 77 (+5) in the final round to finish in a tie for 60th place at 228 (+12).
In the team standings, Seattle U slipped into fifth place after a final round score of 299 (+11) led to a three-round total of 870 (+6), still the best score among the WAC schools in the field as well as three Pac-12 programs and Big Ten member Wisconsin. UNLV pulled away for an eight-stroke victory over Oregon, with Sulman Raza of Oregon earning medalist honors by four strokes with a 54-hole score of 206 (-10).
Seattle University hosts the third annual Redhawk Invitational presented by OGIO at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash., April 4-5. Spectators are welcome to walk the course that hosted the 2015 U.S. Open Championship alongside some of the best collegiate golfers in the country.
