The Seattle University men’s golf team finds itself near the top of the leaderboard at the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic, as the Redhawks are in third place as play was called Monday due to darkness with a few holes remaining in the second round at the Willamette Valley Country Club.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) raced to the top of the leaderboard in the morning round, collecting seven birdies without a bogey to shoot 65 (-7). Starting on the 10th hole in the second round, he birdied the 12th and 14th holes, but a bogey on the first hole and a double bogey on the third hole set Harvie back into a tie for second place at six under par with three holes remaining, one stroke behind leader Aaron Wise of Oregon.

Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) collected six birdies during the first round as he shot 71 (-1), but three birdies and an eagle on the par-five 14th hole have allowed Hall to move up into a tie for fourth place at four under par with two holes remaining in his second round. Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) earned one birdie and 14 pars in the first round as he shot 74 (+2), but four birdies in the second round have kept him at two over par with four holes to go in the second round, good enough for a tie for 25th place.

Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) earned three birdies in the first round as he shot 74 (+2), and he started his second round with a birdie on the 10th hole, but is currently in a tie for 38th place at four over par. After shooting 82 (+10) in the first round, Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) showed improvement in the second round with four birdies against just two bogeys with two holes remaining, moving up into a tie for 63rd place. Playing as an individual, Michael Almonte (Fircrest, Wash.) steadied himself after a first round 78 (+6), collecting one birdie and 12 pars in the second round with two holes to go to also sit in a tie for 63rd place.

Seattle U combined to shoot 284 (-4) in the first round, and the Redhawks sit at four under par so far in the second round to stay in third place at eight under par, five strokes behind UNLV and four strokes behind Oregon. The Redhawks currently sit six strokes ahead of East Tennessee State and are also ahead of Pac-12 schools Washington State, Utah, and Oregon State, West Coast Conference schools Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga, and San Diego, Big Ten member Wisconsin, California schools Cal Poly and Fresno State, and WAC foes Missouri-Kansas City and UT Rio Grande Valley.

The second round will resume at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, immediately followed by the third and final round.
