The Seattle University men’s golf team posted a lower score in the second round Monday, but several other teams also took advantage of the better scoring conditions, as the Redhawks finished the day in fifth place at the Bandon Dunes Championships, hosted by Gonzaga University on the Bandon Trails Course of the Bandon Dunes Resort.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) bogeyed the first two holes, but then birdied the third and fifth holes to bring his round back to even par. He struggled on the back nine, finishing with a second round score of 75 (+4) and a 36-hole total of 144 (+2), ending up in a tie for ninth place.

Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) was steady throughout the day with one birdie and 14 pars as he shot 73 (+2) for a two-day total of 146 (+4), good enough for a tie for 15th place. Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) posted Seattle U’s best score of the day thanks to two birdies and 13 pars for a 72 (+1), finishing the day in a tie for 17th place at 147 (+5).

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) improved his score by five strokes thanks to three birdies and 12 pars, shooting 74 (+3) in the second round for a cumulative score of 153 (+11), currently tied for 44th place.  Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) also shot 74 (+3) in the second round, ending the day in a tie for 52nd place at 155 (+13).

As a team, Seattle U combined for a second-round total of 293 (+9), creating a 36-hole score of 589 (+21) to sit in fifth place entering the final round. Clemson showed why it is the ninth-ranked team in the country, shooting 274 (-10) to open an 18-stroke advantage over Washington at 564 (-4). There is currently a three-way tie for the individual lead, with Stephen Behr and Bryson Nimmer of Clemson tied with Utah Valley’s Blair Bursey at 139 (-3).
