“Gonzaga’s a really deep team with strong players from top to bottom,” said assistant coach Matt Look. “I’m really pleased with Michelle [Lui] and Kelli [Woodman]’s wins. They needed to step up, especially in the third set tiebreakers, and they knocked it out of the park. Overall, we’re improving against these quality teams and that will serve us well going forward.”
Gonzaga swept the doubles matches and would take four of six singles matches for a 5-0 lead. Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) and Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) earned a pair of closely contested, hard-fought three-set tiebreaker matches to grab two points for the Redhawks.
Seattle U takes a weekend off from competition before facing Northern Colorado (12 p.m.) and Portland State (7 p.m.) on the road in Portland, Ore. on Friday, Feb. 26. The Redhawks return home vs. George Fox on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 5 p.m.
