The Seattle University men’s golf team completed the first round Monday of The Farms Collegiate, hosted by the University of San Diego, in seventh place, but none of the competitors were able to finish the second round before darkness descended on The Farms Golf Club.
Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) posted an eagle on the par-four eighth hole, his third hole of the day, as he shot 74 (+2) in the first round. Unofficially, he is in a tie for 15th place at four over par with four holes to play in the second round thanks in part to birdies on the seventh and ninth holes.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) also shot 74 (+2) in the first round with three birdies, but he ended the day in a tie for 27th place at seven over par with two holes remaining. Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) collected six birdies in the first round as he shot 75 (+3) in the opening round, but he also struggled a little bit in the second round, finishing the day in a tie for 31st place at eight over par with three holes remaining.
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) opened with a 78 (+6), followed by a second round in which he earned three birdies, sitting in a tie for 49th place at 12 over par with three holes to go. Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) is in 65th place at 31 over par with two holes to play in his second round after shooting 86 (+14) in the first round.
As a team, Seattle University shot 301 (+13) in the first round to end up in seventh place. SMU has increased its one-stroke lead to three strokes over San Francisco as play was suspended, with Max Alcorn of San Francisco unofficially holding the individual lead at five under par by two strokes over Seth Sweet of Old Dominion.
The plan is for the players to finish the second round Tuesday, Feb. 9, starting at 8:45 a.m., immediately followed by the third and final round.
