The Seattle University men’s golf team opened its spring season at the LMU Invitational Monday, but the second round of the tournament at Reflection Bay Golf Club could not be completed before darkness descended.
Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) opened his first round with two birdies over the first three holes, and then two birdies over the final four holes of the round enabled him to post 74 (+2). He struggled in the second round, but made a birdie on the par-four 13th hole right before play was called to end up in a tie for 40th place at seven-over-par.
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) shot Seattle U’s best round of the morning, earning three birdies against just three bogeys to finish his first circuit at even-par 72. However, he has shot eight-over-par through his first 13 holes of the second round to fall into a tie for 44th place. After a tough front nine of the first round, Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) made par on all nine holes of the back side to shoot 77 (+5), and he is four-over-par through 12 holes of the second round to end the day in a tie for 48th place at nine-over-par.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) also shot 77 (+5) in the first round, but he is eight-over-par after 14 holes of the second round to end up in a tie for 65th place. Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) is in 75th place after shooting 84 (+12) in the first round and playing 14 holes of the second round at six-over-par.
As a team, Seattle U shot 300 (+12) in the first round, moving into seventh place as the second round started. However, the Redhawks have posted a second-round total of 23-over-par to fall into 13th place when play was halted. UNLV has dominated the tournament, shooting 274 (-14) in the first round and eight-under-par so far in the second round to hold a 22-stroke lead over Cal Poly. Unofficially, Justin De Los Santos of Cal Poly is the individual leader at nine-under-par, shooting 66 (-6) in the first round and three-under-par through 12 holes of the second round.
Play is scheduled to resume Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 8 a.m., with live scoring available at https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/17162/.
