COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Seattle University women’s tennis (2-3) earned the doubles point but couldn’t translate the success into singles, falling 5-2 at Air Force (2-1) to close the weekend.

“We executed well in doubles today which was nice to see,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “There were some pressure points in doubles and we came through which was great. Unfortunately, we couldn’t carry the momentum over into singles. We started the match with a lot of intensity, but that waned over the day, which is something we want to improve upon. Michelle [Lui] had a nice singles win and was aggressive in closing her match out. We’ve got a week and a half of practice now before our next competition so we can work on the problem areas from this weekend and continue striving to get better.”

The Redhawks clinched the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead into singles play, winning both doubles matches to finish in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) earned a win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, to give Seattle U another point but Air Force would follow with five singles wins to earn the 5-2 victory.

Seattle U has a weekend off from competition next week before a full weekend of play the following weekend with five matches. The Redhawks face Idaho in Pullman, Wash. (Feb. 4), Lewis-Clark State and College of Idaho in Lewiston, Idaho (Feb. 5), and Washington State and Northern Arizona back in Pullman (Feb. 6) before returning to Seattle to host South Dakota State on Sunday, Feb. 7.
