“Today was a long day with lots of tennis for the guys,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We may have lost both dual matches, but there were a lot of positives to build on. Our doubles in both matches were solid, and I’m really happy for John and Tanner getting a doubles win today; they played well and deserved it. We’ve been working hard on our doubles and it was nice to see those efforts translating on the court. We had some good spots in singles as well, highlighted by Michael playing extremely well, especially in his first match. He is continuing to get better as he gets more competitive matches under his belt after previous injuries before college. We’ve got a week now to get back on the court and work on some things from this weekend and get ready for another Pac-12 opponent in Oregon next weekend.”
In the first match, at No. 5 singles, Michael Schoettler (Tacoma, Wash.) took Sebastian Hawken to three sets, marking the best showing in singles for the Redhawks, but ultimately fell, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
In the second match, Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.) and John Stormans (Olympia, Wash.) picked up a win in doubles, defeating Piers Foley and Enzo Sommer, 6-4.
The Redhawks continue their Pac-12 opening swing with a doubleheader at Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 16 in Eugene.
