High School: Nguyen was a four-year varsity player for the Meadowdale High tennis team. He made two state tournaments, in 2010 and 2011, and made the league tournament three times, from 2009 to 2011, and helped the Mavericks to the league's team championship in 2010. He earned First Team All-League honors in 2010 for his singles play and All-League Honorable mention in singles in 2011. He won the team's Most Inspirational award in 2009, Most Improved in 2010, and Team Spotlight award in 2011, along with being named team captain in 2012. In 2011, he once hit 13 aces in a single match. Nguyen also ran track and field for Meadowdale, and he earned the Principal's Scholar award, Washington State Honors award, and was named AP Scholar with Honors.
Personal: Full name Brian Minh Quan Nguyen. Parents are Kim Tran and Son Nguyen, and he has an older sister named Sheena. Nguyen is a biology major and wants to pursue a career in medicine, preferable as a physician or surgeon. Nguyen spent 12 years as a concert pianist and also volunteered with the UW Medical Center, Swedish Hospital of Edmonds, and the Lynwood Food Bank.
