No. 19 Seattle University men’s soccer (14-3-0, 7-1-0 WAC) scored in just the third minute and played stellar defense through the remainder of the contest to earn a 1-0 shutout at Grand Canyon (6-8-0, 2-5-0 WAC).

“Grand Canyon made it difficult on us and their record does not show how tough they are to play against,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “They’re very organized defensively. I was really proud of Robbie Landeros and Josh Greene coming off the bench and doing a great job. We’re excited to be home for our final regular season home game this weekend.”

Just under three minutes into the contest David Olsen (Auburn, Wash.) scored what would be the game-winner on an assist from Nick Prasad (Surrey, B.C.) for his eighth goal of the season. Olsen led the Redhawks with four shots, two on goal, while Sergio Rivas (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Michael Roberts (Issaquah, Wash.) also added three shots apiece.

“It was an impressive goal from David Olsen, with a terrific build up,” continued Fewing. “Sergio Rivas had the ball wide and fed it into Nick Prasad, then David finished really well. Shane Haworth came up huge on about five one-on-one’s and held onto the ball in high traffic areas.”

In the close contest, GCU outshot SU, 21-16, and the teams each tallied seven shots on frame.

In goal, Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) made seven saves in his 16th career shutout while Kendyl Day made six saves.

The league-leading Redhawks recorded their seventh shutout of the season in the win, including in two of their last four contests. SU has outscored their opponents, 10-4, in five straight wins since Oct. 11.

Seattle U returns home for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. to host Incarnate Word. As part of the day’s festivities, the Redhawks will honor this year’s graduating class.
