CHICAGO, Ill. – Seattle University men’s tennis won the doubles point and two singles matches but ultimately dropped the overall match, 4-3, to University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) as the decision came down to the final match to finish in Western Athletic Conference play.

The Redhawks clinched the doubles point to lead 1-0 with two straight victories at No. 3 and No. 2 before the Broncs took the final doubles match in the No. 1 spot.

UTPA jumped out to a 3-1 lead with three straight singles wins in the first half of matches to finish, but Seattle U powered back to tie the tally, 3-3, on wins at No. 5 and No. 6 from Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) and Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), respectively.

The No. 4 match, the last to finish, was only one of two to advance to three sets in a tightly contested finish but the Broncs’ Elliot Johnstone would ultimately defeat Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.), 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 for the overall match victory.
