LAS VEGAS, Nev. – For the sake of time in tournament play, Seattle University men’s tennis and Idaho State agreed to only play singles matches and the Redhawks would come away with a 4-2 win.

Seattle U jumped out to a 3-0 lead, winning the first three singles matches to finish, as Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) started the match with a straight sets victory over Austin Miller. Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Riley Newman (Whidbey Island, Wash.) followed with back-to-back straight sets victories in the No. 6 and No. 1 spots, respectively.

The Bengals’ Bjorn Scheepbouwer narrowed the deficit with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles but Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.) would clinch the hometown match with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles.

Krzysztof Stempien finished with a win in the No. 2 spot, both sets going to tiebreaker, to result in a 4-2 Seattle U victory.

The Redhawks close their competition week in Las Vegas facing Portland State on Wednesday, Mar. 25 at 9 a.m. PT before heading to Edinburg, Texas for a pair of conference matches this weekend.
