Seattle University men’s soccer (11-5-1, 6-2-1 WAC) trailed early in the match at San Jose State (6-9-2, 4-3-2 WAC) but was able to add three late goals to earn the 3-2 come-from-behind victory in Western Athletic Conference action.

“This was a very good win for us, especially coming from behind,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “We gave up two goals but Ian Hines-Ike had a textbook free kick and then a very good penalty kick. It’s not easy to put those in; you just never know when you’re under that kind of pressure. But the guys never stopped playing and Hamza got his fifth goal in five games to win it, so the team is in good spirits.”

Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline, Wash.) headed in the game-winner with just a minute and 24 seconds left in the contest on an assist by Sam Langston (Sammamish, Wash.) and Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.) to give the Redhawks their final 3-2 lead.

The Redhawks trailed early after Greg Harte put the Spartans ahead, breaking a scoreless tie in the 54th minute with a shot from the top of the box. Rory Knibbs put SJSU ahead, 2-0, nearly 20 minutes later in the 72nd minute on an assist by Harte following a long kick by goalkeeper Felix Petermann.

Ian Hines-Ike (Littleton, Colo.) brought the Redhawks within one in the 75th minute on a free kick and just four minutes later, he equalized the score, 2-2, on a penalty kick.

Despite their loss, San Jose State outshot Seattle U, 20-14, led by Enrique Montano with five shots. Haddadi and Brady Ballew (Marysville, Wash.) led the Redhawks with four shots apiece.

In goal, Petermann made three saves, allowing all three goals in the loss. Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) picked up the win for SU, making six saves.
