Redhawks To Honor Senior Class in Final Regular Season Homestand: Seattle U men’s soccer (8-5-1, 3-2-1 WAC), currently tied for third place in the conference standings, returns home for their last regular season homestand of the 2014 campaign before hosting the Western Athletic Conference tournament in two weeks. They will host Houston Baptist on Friday, Oct. 31 in a Halloween matchup and Incarnate Word on Senior Day, Sunday, Nov. 2. Links to live stats and video for both matches are on the men’s soccer schedule page at www.GoSeattleU.com.
Halloween Happenings: On Friday night, all kids 12 and under in costume will receive free admission to the match. For students, Redzone will be holding a tailgate starting at 5 p.m. in the O’Brien Center parking lot with food, a costume contest, and more. Sounders season ticket holders or anyone with a Sounders ticket stub can present it at the gate to receive free admission to the match.
Senior Day Sunday: This year’s five-member senior class - Chase Hanson, John Mau, Brady Ballew, Kyle Silva, and Race Sciabica - will be honored prior to Sunday’s match. Fans who follow Seattle U Athletics’ three main social media accounts can look for a special ticket offer (to be posted Saturday) for Sunday’s match. Also, Sunday will be a “Tweet Your Seat” match with fans in attendance eligible to win a prize during the match.
Ticket Information: Fans can purchase single game tickets starting an hour prior to each match at the ticket booth at the main Championship Field entrance (corner of 14th and E Cherry). Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for youth (17 and under) and seniors (65+). The Redhawk Sports Pass can be purchased for $50 by calling the Redhawk Ticket Office at (206) 398-GOSU(4678), good for all men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, volleyball, and baseball home contests.
Scouting Houston Baptist (2-8-2, 1-5-0 WAC): Most recently, Houston Baptist held a 2-0 advantage over the WAC’s top team, UNLV, at halftime on Oct. 26, but the Rebels earned a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Huskies. HBU’s lone WAC win thus far came against Bakersfield on Oct. 19, 3-1, in California, with their previous win a month earlier at Belmont on Sept. 19. Offensively, Patrick Toh leads the team with six goals and 35 shots, 19 on frame, while Philip Poser and Kevin Suarez have shared time in goal (Suarez has picked up eight starts in 12 matches). Last season, the Redhawks and Huskies played to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Nov. 1, 2013, and they advanced to the WAC Tournament, falling to Air Force in the quarterfinals. Head coach Steve Jones is in his ninth year at the helm of the Huskies’ men’s soccer program.
Scouting Incarnate Word (6-7-0, 5-1-0 WAC): The Cardinals of Incarnate Word are a part of Seattle U men’s soccer history, as the Redhawks defeated UIW, 1-0, in dramatic fashion in the Elite Eight of the 2004 Division II NCAA Tournament at Championship Field. Seattle U would go on to win the NCAA Division II National Championship that year. The two teams have faced one other time since, on Oct. 29, 2007, a game SU won, 1-0, in OT. The two teams will now face as Division I and conference foes for the first time. The Cardinals, sitting in second place in the WAC, are led offensively by Noah Keats and Dylan Kelly with five goals and three assists apiece. In goal, Kieran O’Boyle has earned the starting spot, playing in 12 of 13 games this season. The Cardinals, led by head coach Vince Martinez, are in the Division I reclassification process and, thus, are not eligible for a bid to the Western Athletic Conference tournament.
