The Seattle University men’s golf team finished in 14th place as the third and final round of the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington at the Gold Mountain Golf Club, took place Tuesday.
Freshman Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) once again led the Redhawks, shooting 75 (+3) over the par-72 Olympic Course to finish the tournament in a tie for 17th place at 221 (+5). Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) shot 78 (+6) during his final circuit of the course, ending up in a tie for 51st place with a three-round total of 230 (+14).
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) ended the tournament tied for 60th place at 232 (+16) after posting a third round score of 81 (+9), while Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) shot 80 (+8) over the final 18 holes of the tournament to finish in a tie for 62nd place at 233 (+17). Shane Wathanasaynee (Los Alamitos, Calif.) shot 78 (+6) to finish the two-day event in 65th place with a cumulative score of 234 (+18).
Seattle U combined for a third-round total of 311 (+23), finishing in 14th place in the team standings. Medalist Jake Knapp made a birdie on the final hole to help UCLA pull into a tie with Oregon for the team title, which each Pac-12 squad shooting three-over-par 867 for the tournament. Knapp shot 71 (-1) Tuesday, good enough for a three-stroke victory over Xander Schauffele of San Diego State.
In the individual tournament on the par-71 Cascade Course, Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) shot three-under-par 68 to move up into a tie for eighth place with a 54-hole score of 216 (+3). Jaesung Choi (Surrey, B.C.) shot one-over-par 72 in the third round for a three-round total of 228 (+15), ending up in 35th place, with Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) right behind him in 36th place at 230 (+17) after a final round score of 77 (+6).
The Seattle University men’s golf team heads to Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., for the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30.
