“Richelle and Lindsay pitched well enough to win both games,” said head coach Dan Powers. “Our bats didn’t come alive all weekend, but we made some great defensive plays. We have to figure out some things at the plate before the WAC tournament begins.”
The Redhawks return home for their final regular season weekend, hosting Grand Canyon on April 25-26 for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Friday and a single game at 2 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s senior class will be honored on Saturday.
Game 1: Bakersfield 2, Seattle U 1
Through the first inning, each batter for both teams was retired in order and the Redhawks would leave a runner on base in the top of the second. Seattle U had their best early opportunity to score in the top of the third, but left Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.) in scoring position and Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) on first to end the inning.
Bakersfield took the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to center field by Amy Ricciardi before she would come around to score an unearned run with two outs.
SU would get on the board in their final chance at bat as Malin Murray (Juneau, Alaska) singled to right field to bring home Jennifer Sweet (Bend, Ore.). Bakersfield was able to prevent further scoring chances, leaving the bases loaded as CSUB came away with the 2-1 win.
Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) gave up both runs on five hits while walking one and striking out two in six innings pitched. Kelsie Monroe gave up a single run on five hits while walking one and striking out four in seven innings.
Game 2: Bakersfield 3, Seattle U 0
A single run apiece in the first through third innings by the Roadrunners would be enough to take the victory as Seattle U only recorded four hits in the contest.
SU would leave at least one runner on base in five of seven innings, with two left on base in the fourth and seventh. Lisa Maulden (Maple Valley, Wash.) and Sarah Petosa (Federal Way, Wash.) would be left in scoring position in the two innings, respectively.
Bakersfield would score their first run on a fielder’s choice in the first with each consecutive run scored on an RBI single, the first by Kara Frankhouser and the second by Madison Bundy.
In the circle, Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) was handed the loss, giving up all three runs on seven hits in the complete game outing. Lyndsay Klimenko allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out one for the ‘Runners.
