“Lisa [Maulden] had a clutch double early and Lindsay [Davis] pitched another solid game,” said head coach Dan Powers. “Our defense made some great plays and it was a great team effort today.”
Lisa Maulden (Maple Valley, Wash.) hit a 3RBI double to left center with the bases loaded, advancing to third on the throw, with one out in the top of the first as the Redhawks took an early 3-0 lead. Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.), Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.), and Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) all scored on the play.
Bakersfield had their best chance to score early in the bottom of the second as they left the bases loaded on a pair of hits. They would leave two more runners on base in the bottom of the fourth.
The Redhawks also left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth with all runners reaching base with zero outs, but three quick outs ended further scoring chances.
SU would add to their total in the top of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead as Geronimo drove in Sarah Petosa (Federal Way, Wash.) with an RBI single to center field.
The Roadrunners scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, the first on a bases loaded walk, and two others on a sacrifice hit and an RBI double by Jessica Castaneda.
CSUB left one on base to end the bottom of the seventh but could not score further as the Redhawks earned the 4-3 victory.
In the circle, Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) allowed just five hits while walking two and striking out one in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) entered in relief giving up three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one in 2 1/3 innings.
Lyndsay Klimenko allowed four runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out three in the complete game outing for the ‘Runners.
