Cal Poly: #37 RHP Casey Bloomquist (2-0, 1.64 ERA, 11.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 6 SO)CHANGE OF PLANS: With the forecast calling for rain on Wednesday, Seattle University and the University of Oregon have agreed to adjust their scheduled midweek series in an attempt to get both games played. The Redhawks and Ducks are now scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday, March 4, starting at 3 p.m. at PK Park. The second game of the twinbill will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Seattle U will then open the home schedule this weekend against nationally-ranked Cal Poly.
SCOUTING OREGON: The Ducks come into the midweek series with an 8-3 record after being swept in a three-game series by Cal State Fullerton. As a team, Oregon has put together a .260 batting average, a .968 fielding percentage, and a 3.06 earned run average. Offensively, Kyle Garlick leads the team with a .394 batting average, a .606 slugging percentage, and a .500 on-base percentage, as he has earned eight walks and eight runs batted in so far this season. Tyler Baumgartner is batting .326 with 14 hits, 11 runs scored, and five stolen bases. In five appearances out of the bullpen, Jake Reed is 1-0 with three saves, allowing just three hits in 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out six opposing batters. Garrett Cleavinger has 11 strikeouts in just five innings on the mound.
SCOUTING CAL POLY: The Mustangs come into the week with an 8-2 record after splitting a doubleheader with USC Sunday. Cal Poly hosts Santa Clara Tuesday before making the trip north to face the Redhawks. As a team, the Mustangs have compiled a .275 batting average, a .981 fielding percentage, and a 2.76 earned run average. Offensively, Nick Torres leads the team with a .395 batting average, 15 hits, 11 runs scored, three home runs, and 13 runs batted in. Brian Mundell also has hit three home runs to go along with a .364 batting average and 12 runs batted in. Reed Reilly has been the Mustangs’ closer, earning three saves in five appearances and striking out seven opposing batters in seven innings of work.
