In their spring duals opener, Seattle U men’s tennis (0-1) fell to Eastern Washington, 4-3, as a doubles sweep for the Eagles proved to be the deciding factor.
Eastern Washington nabbed the doubles point, which would prove to be a deciding factor, winning all three matches. Kevin Lynch/Zach Kosanke and Riley Newman/Connor Leahy came the closest in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to defeating their opponents, but Robert Dula/Eduardo Bringold and Luke Ness/Rendelle Burghart won each match, respectively.
The two teams split the six singles matches, winning three apiece. Will Topp defeated Bringold, 6-1, 6-5, 7-4 at No. 2 singles while Newman defeated Matt Boyle, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Leahy defeated Luke Ness, 6-3, 6-5, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
The team returns to action Friday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m., facing Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho. They close out the weekend vs. Idaho on Saturday and at Gonzaga on Sunday.
