Florida Gulf Coast (9/22): Seattle University men’s soccer found themselves down early, but fought back and earned their first win of the season in overtime, 3-2, versus Florida Gulf Coast. In the 35th minute, Florida Gulf Coast took the lead, as Xavier Silva scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Rodrigo Saravia who took the free kick. A little over two minutes later, in the 37th minute, Michael Roberts equalized the score with a kick just to the left of the goalkeeper, sailing the ball into the back of the net. In the 41st minute, FGCU regained the lead as Silva passed the ball to Henry Penagos on the left side of the goal, who then netted the ball. As the Redhawks trailed at half, in the 50th minute, Justice Duerksen scored his first collegiate goal on an assist by Bobby Segal. Neither team was able to add to their tally, as the Redhawks recorded their fourth overtime game in eight games thus far in 2013. With no shots taken in the overtime period, in the 100th minute, Brady Ballew scored his first goal of the season, the golden goal, assisted by Hamza Haddadi as the Redhawks earned their first win of the season. In the 73rd minute, GSU increased their lead, as Eddie Wilding kicked the ball in from about 25 yards out as they took the 2-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Gonzalez narrowed the score, dribbling down the left side and kicking the ball into the left side of the net past the goalkeeper. SU, however, could not add to their total as they were defeated, 2-1, in their regular season home opener. Justice Duerksen and Sarkis Shaginian made their first collegiate appearances for Seattle U. As a team, Georgia State outshot SU, 12-9. In goal, Feener made four saves while CJ Cochran made two for Georgia State.
