The Seattle University men's swim team could earn only two event victories as Simon Fraser University pulled out a 114-88 victory Saturday afternoon at the Paul and Margaret Savage Pool.

Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) notched the first Redhawk win of the afternoon in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 52.74 seconds, 1.63 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Longbotham also finished second in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:56.59, just 73/100ths of a second behind the event winner.

Andy Cunningham (Cameron Park, Calif.) earned the other Seattle U event victory, touching the wall first in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:07.23, over five seconds in front of his nearest competitor.

Chris Weinert (Gresham, Ore.) finished second in the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 8:53.04, while Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) finished second in the 200 meter individual medley in 2:12.87, followed by James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) in third place in 2:13.09.

In the 100 meter butterfly, Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.) finished second with a time of 58.56 seconds, just ahead of Kyle Moline (Mercer Island, Wash.) in third place in 58.88 seconds. Chris Lynch (Mukilteo, Wash.) finished second in the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:05.08, followed by Gilmore in third place in 1:08.34.

Both relays finished in second place, starting with the 400 meter medley relay with a time of 3:54.95 and concluding with the 400 meter freestyle relay in 3:33.12.

The Seattle University men's swim team will now prepare for the 2013 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif., Feb. 20-23.
