The Seattle University men's tennis kicked off a three-day weekend in Colorado Friday with a 5-2 loss to Montana State in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) scored two wins for the Redhawks during the match. He kicked off his day by teaming up with Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to defeat Montana State's Javier Martin-Morillas and Prithiv Sivasubramaniam 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Individually, Bediones came out victorious in a three-set match over Sivasubramaniam in the fifth singles position 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
Meanwhile, Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.) stayed undefeated in singles play by defeating MSU's Martin-Morillas 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in a battle of freshman at No. 3 singles. However, Kosanke lost his first doubles match of the spring earlier in the day when he and teammate Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) fell to Niklas Brandes and Diego Campos Contreras 8-2 at No. 1 singles.
Lynch returned to his hometown and played atop the singles lineup for the first time in his collegiate career. He fell, however, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to MSU's Brandes. At No. 2 singles, Topp pushed Markus Schleuter into a first-set tiebreaker but lost the tiebreaker and the ensuing second set, falling 7-6(6-1), 6-3.
Rounding out the singles results, Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas) took the first set in a match against the Bobcats' Kenny Dodd but lost the second set and third-set tiebreaker 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 in the sixth singles position. At No. 4 singles, Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) lost in to sets, 6-2, 6-2, to Campos.
Also, in the third doubles match, Rapp and Clare played competitively but MSU's Schleuter and Dodd outlasted the SU duo 8-6.
The Redhawks continue their Colorado road swing Saturday, January 26 when they face Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. That match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
