With two players in the top 15 after a grueling 36-hole day, the Seattle University men's golf team is in a tie for fifth place after two rounds of the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Invitational at the Sandpiper Golf Club.
Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) started the day with a one-over-par 73 in the first round and followed that up with Seattle U's lowest round of the day, posting a second round score of two-under-par 70 to end up in a tie for eighth place at 143 (-1). Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) shot even-par 72 in the first round and one-over-par 73 in the second round to finish the day in a tie for 12th place at 145 (+1).
Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) shot 74 (+2) in the morning round and 75 (+3) in the afternoon circuit for a two-round total of 149 (+5), good enough for a tie for 30th place. Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) posted a score of 76 (+4) in each of the day's two round for a cumulative score of 152 (+8), ending up in a tie for 45th place. Quin Koplitz (Enumclaw, Wash.) shot 78 (+6) in the first round and 77 (+5) in the second round, finishing the day in a tie for 58th place with a 36-hole score of 155 (+11).
As a team, Seattle U combined for scores of 295 (+7) and 294 (+6) to tie host school UC Santa Barbara for fifth place in the 13-team field after two rounds with a cumulative score of 589 (+13). Saint Mary's took the lead after the second round with a 36-hole total of 564 (-12), five strokes ahead of first round leader Long Beach State. Tied for the individual lead with a first-round 69 (-3), Anders Engell of Saint Mary's shot 67 (-5) in the second round to pull ahead by four strokes over Xander Schauffele of Long Beach State.
The third and final round of the OGIO UCSB Invitational will take place Tuesday, April 3, beginning at 8 a.m.
