The Seattle University men’s golf team won the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Challenge Friday after prevailing 3-2 in a final-round matchup with Fresno State Friday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

"The fact that we won is a testament to where the program is and how far it has come," said head coach Don Rasmussen. "It is a direct reflection of the hard work that the team has put in."

SU won the match play competition thanks to three individual wins. At the number three spot, Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) took on Fresno State’s Nate Jessup. Dahl bounced back from a second-round defeat to take down the Bulldogs’ Jessup 3&1, the biggest win on the day for the Redhawks.

Quin Koplitz (Enumclaw, Wash.) played all 18 holes and ended the round 2 up on the Mustangs’ Keenan Nelson in the fifth position, while Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) won his third match of the tournament, finishing 1 up against Fresno State’s Ruffie Fessler in the second slot.

Both of Fresno State’s points came from 18-hole matches. At the first position, Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) fell to Brian Sunker by one, and Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) also lost by one to Jack Mulroy at number four.

The Redhawks take a week and a half of before returning to California Monday April 2nd and Tuesday, April 3rd for the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate at Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara.
