Just 16 hours after completing a victory over Simon Fraser, the Seattle University women's swim team struggled with fatigue Saturday afternoon, losing to the Clan, 56-39, as well as to Washington State, 59-35, in a meet at the Connolly Center Pool.

The only event victory for the Redhawks came in the 100 breaststroke, as Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) finished first with a time of 1:05.19, followed by teammate Kevlyn Richards (Gig Harbor, Wash.) in 1:06.40. Morehouse combined with Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.), Megan Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) for a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:59.76.

Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.83, followed by Casey Hoffman (Federal Way, Wash.) in fourth place with a time of 5:18.44. Hoffman also finished fourth in the 1000 freestyle in 10:47.79, and Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) also earned a fourth-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:38.12.

"There's no question that going through two days of competition without much rest caught up with them a little bit," Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said. "We are going to be in great shape for Reno next weekend, followed by the conference meet."

Simon Fraser won the opening event, as Grace Ni, Katie McEvoy, Alexandria Schofield, and Kristine Lawson set a new pool record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:54.88. Carmen Nam picked up two more event victories, winning the 1000 freestyle (10:27.19) and the 500 freestyle (5:11.94), but Washington State earned six event victories during the afternoon.

Before the meet, seniors Basler, Hoffman, Morehouse, Nguyen, and Connie Rae Shobaken (Tualatin, Ore.) were honored for their contributions to the Seattle U swim program.

The Seattle University women's swim team will head to Reno, Nev., next weekend for a dual meet against the Nevada Wolf Pack Saturday, Jan. 28, beginning at 11 a.m. The Redhawks will then prepare for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Monterey Park, Calif., Feb. 15-18.
