WELCOME BACK REDHAWKS: Nine players who earned a letter during the 2010 season are back for Seattle University in 2011, including the team leaders in kills (Cristin Richards) and blocks (Jordan Keller). Also, three players who redshirted during the 2010 campaign (Jacquie Brice, Kaytlyn Dill, Allie Hoskins) return this year, as does Karina Miastkowska, who hurt her knee during the season-opening match against Portland State last year and received a hardship waiver, keeping her at two years of eligibility remaining. Seattle U welcomes one newcomer in 2011: Alec Goodrie, an outside hitter from Springfield, Ore., who was a four-time all-district honoree at Thurston High School.
TRACKING A MILESTONE:
Seattle U head coach Shannon Ellis enters her eighth season needing six victories to officially reach the 100-win mark for her career. Although Seattle U tallies up 95 career wins for Ellis, the NCAA does not count a victory over Trinity Western Oct. 1, 2009, that was counted in the regular season that year. Therefore, in the eyes of the NCAA, Ellis begins the 2011 campaign with 94 career wins.
