Numerous members of the Seattle University baseball team are participating in summer baseball leagues as a way of staying sharp before reporting back to campus for fall practices.

Four members of the 2010-11 Seattle U baseball squad are currently playing in the Puget Sound Collegiate League, a wood-bat league based in Thurston County. Tyler Sustare (Bend, Ore.) is playing for the Hawks Prairie Cardinals, Josh Kutz (Seattle, Wash.) is playing for the Olympia Athletics, and Blaine Jones (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Ryan Somers (Sammamish, Wash.) are teammates on the West Olympia Lynx.

The West Coast League features seven members of the Redhawk team that doubled its win total from 2010 to 2011. Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.), Michael Tevlin (Billings, Mont.), and Riley Tompkins (Lynnwood, Wash.) are playing for the Bend Elks, Trent Oleszczuk (Beaverton, Ore.) is batting .321 for the Corvallis Knights, Cory Mack (Spokane, Wash.) and Eric Yardley (Richland, Wash.) are pitching for the Walla Walla Sweets, and Sean Narby (Auburn, Wash.) is playing for the Kitsap Blue Jackets.

In the Far West League, Doug Kincaid (Portland, Ore.), Marcelino Morales (Pasco, Wash.), and Jace Sloan (Puyallup, Wash.) are teammates for the Southern Oregon Riverdawgs, while Bryndon Ecklund (Elma, Wash.) and Nick Latta (Tacoma, Wash.) have helped the Humboldt Crabs jump out to a 15-5 start.

Brandon Kizer (Marysville, Wash.) is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League. In the Pacific West Baseball League, Nick Sours (San Carlos, Calif.) is a member of the Menlo Park Legends.

The summer baseball leagues will continue throughout July. The Seattle University baseball team will report back to campus in September to begin the fall season in preparation for its third year of competition in February 2012.
