EUGENE, Ore. – On the first day of the Oregon Relays, Seattle University's Emily Walters (Olympia, Wash.) broke her own school record in the long jump at Hayward Field.

Walters’ jump of 5.41 meters (17-9.00) barely surpassed her previous record of 5.40 meters that she set on April 9, and earned her ninth place.

In the 1500 meter run, Sarah Bolce (Sacramento, Calif.) finished seventh for the Redhawks in section B with a time of 4:44.94.

Taylor Fitch (Seattle, Wash.) competed in the 200 meter run with a personal best time of 22.44. Just behind him were teammates Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.), who also set a personal record of 22.62, and Duncan MacKay (Renton, Wash.), who finished in 22.63.

Competing in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) came within two seconds of his school record with a time of 9:30.68. In section B of the 1500 meter run, Kelton Sears (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished with a time of 4:04.59, followed by Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) in 4:05.51 and Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) in 4:05.74. Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) competed in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.05.

In other women’s distance events, Mary Thompson (Simi Valley, Calif.) ran the 800 meter run in 2:27.97, and Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) completed the 1500 meter run in 4:55.52.  Katie Tougas (Edmonds, Wash.) also competed in the long jump, finishing with a distance of 4.98 meters (16-4.25).

"It was pretty windy earlier in the day.  That made it a day to work on racing well, rather than shoot solely for times," said head coach Trisha Steidl. "That didn't stop the team from putting out many good and gutsy performances today. Emily helped us continue our streak of having at least one school record at every meet with her long jump today and there are opportunities for more PRs and school records tomorrow."

The Redhawks will continue competition at the Oregon Relays on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
