In a tightly contested men's tennis match at the Boeing Tennis Club Sunday afternoon, Eastern Washington picked up the important points in both singles and doubles to come away with a 5-2 victory over Seattle University.
Eastern Washington struck first by earning the doubles point with victories in the number two and number three doubles positions. The Eagles nearly swept the doubles sets, but Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) and Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) were able to squeak past Stefan Simikic and Kyle Koetje in the number one doubles position, 8-7, with a 7-3 decision in the tiebreaker.
Andrew Anderson (Tacoma, Wash.) came from behind in his match against Julian Sanchez in the number two singles position, winning the final two sets after losing the first set (3-6, 6-2, 6-0). Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) did the same thing in the number five singles position, defeating Chad Henninger in three sets after losing the first set (4-6, 6-2, 6-4).
Eastern Washington was able to win the overall match thanks to three straight-set victories. Shkrebtan won the first set in his match at the number three singles position, but Mario Navarro was able to come from behind to give the Eagles an insurance point with a three-set victory.
Seattle University (2-12) plays its final home match of the season next Saturday, March 19, against Pacific Lutheran, scheduled for the SU Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
