In two matches closer than the final scores indicated, the Seattle University men's tennis team hung with some of the top players in the region, but the Redhawks fell to Oregon, 7-0, and Portland State, 6-1, Saturday.

In the morning contest at Oregon's Student Tennis Center, Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) was able to extend his match to a super-tiebreaker by winning a second-set tiebreaker against Douglas Mayeda, but Mayeda pulled out the match with a 10-3 victory in the super-tiebreaker. Matt Overland (Renton, Wash.) threatened to extend his match to a super-tiebreaker, but Oregon's Aaron Clissold won seven straight points in the second set tiebreaker to win the match in straight sets.

In the afternoon match at Club Green Meadows, Andrew Anderson (Tacoma, Wash.) earned the Redhawks' only point of the afternoon with a three-set victory over Alex VanDerschelden (6-1, 4-6, 10-7). Overland forced a super-tiebreaker in his match against Matt Erickson before losing by a close margin (6-4, 0-6, 10-6). Overland was also partly responsible for Seattle U's only doubles victory of the day, teaming with Yusuke Kanehira (Tokyo, Japan) to defeat the Vikings' Vetu Mam and Jeff Cero, 8-5.

Seattle University (1-6) heads to Bozeman, Mont., in two weeks for matches against Lewis-Clark State (Feb. 25 - 2 p.m.), Montana State-Billings (Feb. 25 - 6 p.m.), and Montana State (Feb. 26 - 2 p.m.).
