The lone Seattle U point came in the number three singles position, as junior Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) came back from a one-set deficit to defeat Portland's Bryan Thorp in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4). In the number five singles position, Matt Overland (Renton, Wash.) forced a first-set tiebreaker, but Ratan Gill pulled out the tiebreaker and went on to win the match in straight sets (7-6 (7-5), 6-1).
Portland (6-1) started the day by winning the doubles point with victories in the number one and number two doubles positions. The Redhawk duo of Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) and Yusuke Kanehira (Tokyo, Japan) earned the win in the number three doubles slot, defeating Gill and Geoff Hernandez, 8-7, thanks to a 7-2 decision in the tiebreaker.
Seattle University (1-4) heads to Eugene, Ore., for a dual match against the University of Oregon Saturday morning, Feb. 12, at 9 a.m. before coming back to Portland for an afternoon contest against Portland State at 4 p.m.
