Despite battling all night, the Seattle University men's basketball team could never recover from an early deficit, as Loyola Marymount defeated the Redhawks, 81-64, Monday night at Gersten Pavilion.

Aaron Broussard (Federal Way, Wash.) led the way for Seattle U with 22 points and six rebounds, with Sterling Carter (Seattle, Wash.) contributing 17 points and three rebounds. Alex Jones (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with nine points, but had a rough night in the shooting department, and fellow senior Garrett Lever (Phoenix, Ariz.) collected six points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Loyola Marymount (9-13) jumped out to a 13-2 lead four-and-a-half minutes into the game and never looked back. With a 7-0 run, Seattle U came within six at 32-26 thanks to Carter making all three free throws after being fouled with 3:16 left in the first half, but the Lions scored the final six points of the half to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Redhawks could only get as close as seven points behind early in the second half before Loyola Marymount pulled away. The Lions shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field in the second half, while Seattle U shot only 36.4 percent (12-of-33) from the field after halftime.

Drew Viney notched a double-double for Loyola Marymount with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashley Hamilton earned 16 points and nine rebounds and Anthony Ireland contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots off the bench. The Lions won the rebounding battle, 49-36, and blocked ten shots.

Seattle University (8-14) will play on its home floor for the first time in four weeks this Saturday, Feb. 5, against the University of Portland beginning at 7:10 p.m. at KeyArena at Seattle Center. Tickets for this game, which will feature the retirement of Tom Workman's number 32 at halftime, are available through Ticketmaster.com, at local Fred Meyer locations, and at the KeyArena Box Office.
