On the first day of competition at Boise State, the Seattle University women swimmers were outscored, 137-66, by the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Broncos.

Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) led the way for Seattle U with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.88.

Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.) placed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.36, followed by teammates Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.) in third with a time of 1:01.87 and Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) in fourth in 1:02.17. Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.)  took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:08.55, just .28 seconds behind the Broncos’ Madison Gray. Cobb also placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.46.

Other top finishers for the Redhawks include Casey Hoffman (Burien, Wash.), who took third in both the 1000 freestyle (10:56.30) and 500 freestyle (5:21.31), and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.), who also had two third-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.39) and 100 freestyle (55:01). Briley Boggs (Federal Way, Wash.) placed third in the 100 butterfly in 59.04.

In the 800 freestyle relay, Cobb, Nguyen, Nicole Doi (Pleasanton, Calif.), and Connie Rae Shobaken (Tualatin, Ore.) placed second with a total time of 8:01.59, followed by another Seattle U team in third place in 8:14.62.

The Redhawks will finish out the two-day dual meet against Boise State tomorrow, with the first event beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
