For the second straight day, the Seattle University men's golf team posted a lower team score than in the previous round, combining for a 292 Tuesday to finish in fourth place at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii at the Puakea Golf Course.
Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) shot his second round of 71 in three days, finishing in eighth place overall with a final score of 216 (even). Chris Holway (Longview, Wash.) posted his best round of the tournament, shooting even-par 72 to move into the top 20 with a three-round total of 222 (+6), finishing in a tie for 16th place.
Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) and Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) finished in a tie for 19th place with a 54-hole score of 223 (+7), with Pavlos shooting 73 and Seibly shooting 79 in Tuesday's third round. Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) shot 76 in the final round for a three-day total of 229 (+13), good enough to finish in a tie for 33rd place.
Seattle University finished the tournament with a three-round total of 881 (+17), just five strokes behind host school Hawaii. The Redhawks finished well ahead of fifth-place Texas-San Antonio, sixth-place Northern Colorado, and seventh-place Gonzaga. San Diego successfully defended its team title, pulling away to a 21-stroke victory over British Columbia. The Toreros' Gunner Wiebe won the individual title by three strokes over teammate Manav Shah.
The Seattle University men's golf team will not compete again until the start of the spring season in 2011. The team will compete in the America Sky Conference Golf Championship for the first time after being accepted into the conference over the summer.
