Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.) won his heat of the 200 meter dash and finished third overall in the event with a time of 22.21 seconds. Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) also crossed the finish line first in his 200 meter dash heat, posting a time of 22.33 seconds to finish in ninth place overall.
Stanfield and Fussell both finished second in their respective 60 meter dash heats, with Stanfield finishing 17th overall with a time of 7.01 seconds and Fussell pulling into a tie for 19th place with a time of 7.03 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, Tom Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second in his heat in 49.21 seconds, good enough for seventh place overall in the event. Daniel Sullivan (Tukwila, Wash.) competed in both the 60 meter dash (7.33 seconds) and the 400 meter dash (52.06 seconds).
SeattleU's top distance runners also competed over the past two days. In the one mile run, senior Nicholas Alvarado (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in sixth place in his section with a time of 4:21.31, followed by Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.), who crossed the finish line with a time of 4:28.41.
Hans Heitzinger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) competed in the 3000 meter run, finishing 12th in his section with a time of 8:42.83. Michael Van Nuland (Newcastle, Wash.) posted a time of 15:31.83 in the 5000 meter run that was held Friday evening.
While these competitors rest and start preparing for the Great West Conference Championships in two weeks, the rest of the Seattle University track and field team will see action in the UW Indoor Open, which begins at 8 a.m. and runs throughout the day at Dempsey Indoor.
