Seattle University took advantage of playing 11v9 after Air Force lost two players to red cards earlier in the contest. The Redhawks pressed forward as the second overtime wound down, advancing the ball to the right side where Kevin Cook (Gresham, Ore.) corralled it and dribbled it down the field. Cook's entry pass found Walsh, whose shot sailed over the head of Air Force goalie Mike Mauro and dropped into the net to give SeattleU its second conference victory of the season.
After Air Force earned some early chances in the first half, SeattleU took control of the action, putting five shots on goal in an 11-minute span. The fifth one came as a result of a corner kick, as Sean Morris (Bothell, Wash.) directed a short kick to Elliot Richards (Seattle, Wash.), who served the ball into the box. John Pegg (Edmonton, Alberta) got his head on the ball and sent it on net, eluding Mauro and trickling over the goal line for his first career collegiate goal.
Air Force (7-7-1, 2-4 MPSF) lost a player early in the second half and another one midway through the period, and SeattleU took advantage of being a player up, continuing to pressure the Falcons offensively. Mauro was up to the challenge, finishing with ten saves in the match.
Air Force finally showed some offense of its own late in the second half, converting on a chance with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation. Kevin Durr sent a pass from the left side into the box, where Ben Chavez redirected the ball towards the net. Before SeattleU goalie Ivan Dizdar (Phoenix, Ariz.) could get his hands on the ball, Josh Rhynard deposited the ball under Dizdar into the lower left corner of the net to tie the match and eventually send it into overtime.
Seattle University had a couple of chances to end the match in regulation, but a shot by Pegg hit the post with less than two minutes remaining, and another shot by Brandon Hamer (Carmichael, Calif.) smacked the crossbar with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Down two men, Air Force was seemingly attempting to end the match in a tie, but the late spurt by SeattleU prevented that.
Dizdar finished with six saves as he picked up his second victory of the season. Pegg led all players with nine total shots, including five shots on goal. Rhynard and Stephen Noller led the way for the Falcons with two shots on goal each, while Kevin Rosser finished with the team lead with five total shots.
Seattle University (3-10-1, 2-3 MPSF) heads to Colorado to make up the previously postponed match at Denver University on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. local time. The team then returns for the home finale next Sunday, Nov. 8, against Cal State Bakersfield starting at 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
