In game three, the Black team took a 5-2 lead after three innings, thanks in part to a two-run double by Skip Spencer (Springfield, Ore.) and a two-run home run by Riley Tompkins (Lynnwood, Wash.). Five Scarlet relievers combined to shut down the Black offense the rest of the way, while the Scarlet hitters came alive to push across four runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh.
The top two batters in the Scarlet batting order, Phil Parrish (Great Falls, Mont.) and Ryan Somers (Sammamish, Wash.), combined to go 6-for-8 with two walks and five runs scored. Josh Kutz (Seattle, Wash.) put Scarlet ahead for good in the sixth inning with a bases-clearing double, while Eric Yardley (Richland, Wash.) moved from first base to the pitching mound for 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.
The Scarlet team forced the deciding game by earning a 2-1 victory in a rain-shortened game two. Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.) drove in Josh Kalalau (University Place, Wash.), with both players earning a stolen base each. Spencer went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run for the Black team. The pitching for both teams was the story, as Conor Spink (Eagle River, Alaska) earned the win after giving up only four hits in five innings, while Bryan Dalton (Vancouver, Wash.) kept the Black team in the game by giving up only three hits and two walks while striking out three Scarlet batters.
Game one was controlled by the Black team for the first five innings, taking a 5-0 lead in part because of a two-run home run from Steve Kirbach (Kirkland, Wash.) and four stolen bases by Doug Buser (Orinda, Calif.). The Scarlet team roared back with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, with Kutz foreshadowing his game three heroics with a three-run double. The comeback continued with two walks and a hit batter in the seventh inning, but Brandon Kizer (Marysville, Wash.) struck out the final batter to end the game for the Black team.
