Marina Pomar-Enders (Mill Creek, Wash.) won four individual events during the weekend. On Friday night, she cruised to a victory in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:13.27, followed by a win in the 500 freestyle in 5:20.04. Saturday, she continued her dominance of the distance events, winning the 1000 freestyle by over ten seconds with a time of 10:56.69, with another 500 freestyle victory to follow in 5:21.28. Pomar-Enders also swam the second leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay, which posted a time of 3:45.96.
Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned the individual victory in the 200 freestyle on both Friday and Saturday, swimming Friday's event in 1:58.04 and posting a time of 1:59.70 in Saturday's meet. On Friday, Hanohano led off the 200 freestyle relay, with Rachel Leighter (Eugene, Ore.), Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.), and Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) helping the quartet win the race with a time of 1:42.90. In Saturday's meet, Hanohano was the anchor in the 400 freestyle relay, with Basler leading off and Leighter swimming the third leg in the winning effort.
Leighter had a strong meet on Saturday, winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.56, just ahead of Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.), who finished second in 1:03.19. Leighter also led off the 400 medley relay on Saturday, joining with Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.), Briley Boggs (Federal Way, Wash.), and Henan in kicking off the meet with a victory in a time of 4:04.93. Boggs picked up her first individual victory Saturday in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:00.92, about a second faster than teammate Megan Kelley's (Las Vegas, Nev.) second place posting of 1:01.90.
Kelley won the 200 butterfly Friday night with a time of 2:15.28, while Morehouse continued her early-season prowess with a victory in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.84, just 15/100ths of a second off her school-record time set last season. Morehouse picked up two more individual victories on Saturday, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:15.13 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.19.
After earning six victories in 11 events on Friday, Seattle University took control of Saturday's meet, winning nine of 11 events. Alaska's Felina Rosadiuk prevented a SeattleU sweep by winning the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, the same two events she won Friday evening. Mariya Pavlovskaya earned victories in the 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke Friday, and the two Nanooks bookended the team's victory in the 200 medley relay by 7/100ths of a second over the Redhawk team of Nguyen, Morehouse, Boggs, and Basler.
The Seattle University swim teams are next in action Friday, Oct. 30, against Pacific in Stockton, Calif., beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a dual meet against UC Davis in Davis, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 11 a.m. The women's team will host Idaho Friday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m., with both the men and the women welcoming Whitworth to the Connolly Center Saturday, Nov. 14, for a 1 p.m. meet.
