Already holding a 1-0 lead, Tulsa (1-0-1) pressured the SeattleU defense for the first part of the second half. The Redhawks finally responded, first with a counterattack that led to a shot by Elliot Richards (Seattle, Wash.) that was stopped by Tulsa goalie Andy Aguilar. Just over five minutes later, Aguilar was called upon again as Ryan Blair (Albuquerque, N.M.) threatened to tie the match.
Finally, SeattleU took advantage of a Tulsa foul, setting up a play deep in Golden Hurricane territory. Morris took it upon himself to score the Redhawks' first goal of the season, sending the free kick past Aguilar for his third career goal. Seattle University kept the pressure on during the next ten minutes before the home team sent two shots wide in the final four minutes of regulation.
Tulsa's Austin Neil attempted to end the match in the first minute of overtime, but DeOliveira made the first of three saves during the first ten-minute overtime session. On the other side of the field, Aguilar needed to make two saves, as both Richards and John Pegg (Edmonton, Alberta) had chances to end the match in SeattleU's favor.
Seattle University dominated the first half of the second overtime session, as Kyle Peterman (Boise, Idaho) put two shots on goal that Aguilar, who finished with seven saves, turned away, followed quickly by a Richards shot that was blocked. Tulsa had one final chance to end the match before time expired, but De Oliveira made the final save of the evening on a shot by Kyle Cumings.
The Golden Hurricane took the 1-0 lead late in the first half as Joe Salem collected his own rebound and beat DeOliveira with the follow-up shot for his first goal of the season. Tulsa controlled the action in the first half, with the exception of a shot by Blair that was on target but stopped by Aguilar.
Tulsa won the battle in total shots, 27-14, and corner kicks, 7-3, and was led by Corey Albertson's six shots and Jose Parada with five shots. Richards and Pegg led Seattle University with four shots each.
Seattle University (0-1-1) will face SMU Sunday, Sept. 6, beginning at 1 p.m. local time. The next home match for the Redhawks is Saturday, Sept. 19, against Oregon State beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Championship Field.
