Katie Petersen (, ) batted 6-for-7, Jessica Amador () hit a home run in each game, and the pitching did enough to control Lower Columbia College as the Seattle University softball team swept the Red Devils, 5-3 and 8-7, Wednesday afternoon at Logan Field.

Amador led of the second inning of the first game with a home run to put SeattleU on the board. Later in the inning, Katie Antich (, ) singled to drive in Lauren Carlson (), stole second, and scored on a Petersen single. Kelsey Reynolds () allowed only a hit and a walk in the final three innings to preserve the victory, finishing with eight strikeouts for the game.

In the second game, Lower Columbia took the early lead thanks to a two-run home run by Kim Paollili, but Seattle University answered when Petersen walked and scored on a two-run shot by Jamie Foote (Lynnwood, Wash.). The Red Devils retook the lead in the second inning, as Sabrina Stanley’s single scored Sara Oliva and a groundout by Kendall Grant was able to bring Amber Diimmel across with the team’s fourth run.

A Petersen single in the bottom of the second inning scored Peggy Mathison () to bring SeattleU within one at 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth, after Antich scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, Amador hit her second home run of the day, scoring Petersen ahead of her and giving the Redhawks a 6-4 lead.

Lower Columbia scored once in the sixth inning to cut the SeattleU deficit to one at 6-5, but Foote answered in the bottom of the inning with a double that scored Petersen, followed by a wild pitch that plated Foote to give SeattleU an 8-5 lead.

It would turn out to be needed insurance as, in the seventh inning, Samantha Petrich singled to score Grant, followed by a sacrifice fly by Paollili that drove in Laura Thorp and advanced Petrich to third base with two outs.
