Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.) and Alexis Morehouse (Vancouver, Wash.) posted the best individual results so far this weekend, while the relay teams continued to post solid results and several other swimmers kept up the trend of notching season best times as Seattle University competed on the second day of the Husky Invitational Friday at the King County Aquatics Center.
Djang finished tenth overall in the men’s 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 57.05 seconds in the morning preliminaries to qualify for the "B" final, then knocking two seconds off that time in the evening to finish second in his race in 55.06 seconds, potentially a new school record. Djang also swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay team that finished seventh in 1:35.81 and led off the 800 freestyle relay team that touched the wall in sixth place in 6:56.82, both season-best times.
In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Morehouse qualified for the "B" final with a preliminary time of 1:05.84, and followed up by finishing sixth in that race (14th overall in the event) with a time of 1:06.12 in the evening. She swam the second leg in the women’s 200 medley relay, joining Tina Nguyen (Hillsboro, Ore.), Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii), and Kelsey Henan (Billings, Mont.) for a tenth-place finish in 1:51.68.
Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.) picked up points in two events, qualifying for the "C" finals in both the men’s 100 butterfly with a season-best 50.97 seconds in the morning preliminaries and the men’s 100 backstroke, where he knocked one-tenth of a second off his morning time to finish fourth in his race in 52.87 seconds. He also led off the 200 medley relay, joining Djang, Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), and Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.) for the seventh-place finish.
Hayley Cobb (Irvine, Calif.) was the other SeattleU swimmer to pick up points on an individual basis, finishing fourth in the "C" final of the women’s 400 individual medley with a time of 4:36.77. She was also the anchor of the women’s 800 freestyle relay quartet, helping Henan, Hanohano, and Hanna Basler (El Cajon, Calif.) post an eighth-place finish with a season-best time of 7:56.95.
Henan also earned a season-best time in the morning preliminaries of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.87, while Nguyen posted the team’s best time of the season in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.34. On the men’s side, Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) swam the 200 freestyle in 1:45.38 in the preliminaries, and then joined Djang, Bryant Bevers (Federal Way, Wash.), and Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho) for the sixth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay.
At the end of the night, the Seattle University swim teams have combined for 395 points during the first two days of the meet, placing them in seventh place overall. The Husky Invitational concludes with one more day of competition Saturday, Dec. 6.
