Laina Sobczak ( Place, ) and Jackie Thomas (, ), seniors on the women’s basketball team, and junior Chelsie Morrison (Portland, Ore.) earned enough votes from the conference’s coaches to garner honorable mention All-GNAC recognition, announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.
Sobczak, the tenth member of the 1,000-point club for women’s basketball, finished second on the team in scoring and first in rebounding with 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sobczak finished her career with 1,075 career points and 605 career rebounds, eighth on SU’s career scoring and rebounding lists.
Thomas started 26 of the 27 games she appeared in this season, averaging 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. The GNAC Player of the Week on Jan. 14, she became ’s all-time steals leader, male or female, finishing with 234 career steals, and her 84 steals this season is a single season record.
Morrison led Seattle University in scoring this season, averaging 11.6 points per game. A two-time GNAC Player of the Week, she set a new school record in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 48.1 percent (50-of-104) of her attempts from behind the three-point line. Morrison, who also led the team with 21 blocked shots, posted the third-highest single-game point total in the GNAC this season, scoring 35 points in SeattleU's 83-78 overtime victory at Montana State Billings on Feb. 16.
The women’s basketball team finished with a 16-11 overall record, the third consecutive winning season for the program.
